The Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland

This geological wonder of nature has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 30 years and is definitely worth a visit. The distinctive hexagonal shape and smooth, flat surface of the columns give them a particularly impressive appearance. It is almost unbelievable what volcanic activity is capable of. The Giant's Causeway, stretches over 5 kilometres along Ireland's north coast, reaching from the volcanic plateau directly down into the sea. At the bottom of the sea, the formations run all the way to Scotland. According to legend, a giant used to live there. He desired to fight a competing giant in faraway Scotland and created a path in order to reach him: the Giant’s Causeway.
